These antique mantel timbers can average 150-200+ years of age! The ages of these
wood timber beams were 100+/- years old when harvested for the construction-coupled with the
fact that most structures the timbers were used for average 125-150 years old or more,
making for a truly genuine, antique fireplace mantel. Old growth, virgin timbers are a very rare find!

Options you can add to Timber Mantels
*Open or filled notches, pegs and dowels: Back in the 1800's, master craftsmen used
wooden pegs and dowels to connect the timber joints. Notches were made by hand with
chisels/mallets to join the intersecting timber members. Dowel pegs that project
slightly can simulate a knot-a nice addition! These details can be added to your
mantel, to preserve a true antique mantel design.

The wood mantel style along with final length, height, and depth are factors in the price. The Best of Nature hand hewn timber mantel standard sizes average 6-6 ½’’ tall, and 7 ¾- 9’’ deep. (Naturally, a 2, 3 or 4’’ tall and 4, 5 or 6’’ deep mantel is smaller than Our standard sized mantels, and prices usually reflect this difference).

Best of Nature Rustic Wood Mantel Pricing:
1) Lengths of 40’’-50’’ (3’6’’- 4’2’’) can range $266-$298 for the (5-5 ½’’ tall) and $292-348+/- for the standard 6-6 ½’’ heights.
2) Lengths of approx. 54-60’’ (4’6’’-5’ long) are in the $346-$377 price ranges for the 5-5 ½’’ heights, and $394-$466+/- for the 6-6 ½’’ standard height mantels.
3) Rustic mantles from 5’6’’-6’ long average $424-$472 for the smaller height, and $478-$544 for the 6 - 6 ½’’ heights.
4) 7-8’ lengths average $576-$688+/- depending on final height and length range.

Mantels are made to the exact length you need.

*Note: We hand hewn sizes from 3-5’’ tall, to accommodate custom applications.
When comparing products/prices, take every detail into account-including the quality/smoothness of the hewn mantel surfaces, and overall sizes relative to height and depth. One noticeable detail is that our hand hewn timber mantels are handcrafted on the front face AND THE BOTTOM, as a true antique timber mantel should be! All the textured surfaces of your mantel are smoothly hand-sanded. Smooth so you can feel the handcrafted textures and accents!

Finishing options:
Some customers like to do the mantel finishing themselves. Our wood mantels are sanded smooth and surfaces cleaned/ prepared for finishing.
Other customers want their mantel finished, so upon arrival, it is ready for installation.
We apply approx. 2 coats of the stain tone desired, followed by 4-5 coats of clear satin topcoats, all hand applied and hand sanded between the final coats for a furniture grade smooth finish. Finish prices vary based on mantel size and options selected.
Prior to the staining, we make a color chip from the mantel, and apply 3-4 stain colors close to the tone you want, and email them to you for your review and approval.
